Prof. Dr. Philipp Trotter

Prof. Trotter studied industrial engineering at RWTH Aachen University and comparative politics at the London School of Economics. He completed his PhD on multi-criteria energy system optimisation in Sub-Saharan Africa at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bath. After completing his doctorate, he conducted research on business model innovation in Africa at the University of Oxford, where he is still an Honorary Research Associate at the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment. Before moving to the University of Wuppertal, he worked at RWTH Aachen University on the basis of an EU Marie Curie Fellowship.
Prof. Trotter has been honoured for his academic achievements with the Springorum Medal of RWTH Aachen University and the Comparative Politics Prize of the London School of Economics. He is also a member of the Young Academy of the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences, Humanities and the Arts. His research is strongly interdisciplinary and focusses on the nexus of energy and sustainable development in Africa. His research has been published in world-leading scientific journals (Nature, Nature Energy, Nature Sustainability, Research Policy).
